The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht becomes the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon
GERICS has been a scientific organizational entity of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (HZG) since 2009. Now the HZG has been renamed Helmholtz-Zentrum hereon GmbH.
The new name and logo is expressing its current mission and organisational structure with the various locations and field offices as well as the interdisciplinarity of the centre.
Together with the new brand identity, Hereon has given itself a new scientific organisational structure. The centre now comprises 15 institutes. At the same time, GERICS was given the status of a Hereon Institute: GERICS - German Institute for Climate Services. Hereon's coastal research division was also restructured and now comprises the three new institutes: Institute for Coastal Ocean Dynamics; Institute for Coastal Systems - Analysis and Modelling; and Institute for Coastal Environmental Chemistry. With these three institutes and GERICS, Hereon is represented by four institutes in the Helmholtz Research Field Earth and Environment.
