At the TIPPECC 3rd and final annual consortium meeting held in Lusaka, Zambia, GERICS scientist Dr Armelle Remedio presented the climate simulation results developed in GERICS, highlighting the impacts of om the regional climate. GERICS scientist Dr Torsten Weber led a critical discussion on the uncertainties in regional climate projections and their implications for climate services across southern Africa.
The TIPPECC project, coordinated by the Global Change Institute (GCI) at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS), brought together a strong consortium of partners: Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS), FSU Jena (Germany), the University of Zambia (UNZA), Gobabeb/NUST (Namibia), and the University of Botswana (UB). The consortium meeting and stakeholder engagement activities were hosted by UNZA.
Regional stakeholders were briefed on the key outcomes of the TIPPECC project, including findings on drought risks, groundwater vulnerability, and climatic impacts on wildlife, crops and cattles.
As part of the project’s legacy, an initial demonstration of the TIPPECC Climate Service Gateway was conducted at the SASSCAL Regional Office in Windhoek, Namibia. During this event, the TIPPECC Consortium also had the opportunity to meet the new Executive Director of SASSCAL, marking an important step in strengthening collaboration and ensuring the sustainability of the Gateway platform.
