Dr. Christine Nam is a Senior Climate Scientist at GERICS whose work focuses on fostering collaboration among Earth System scientists and Data scientists to co-develop a web-based visual analytic tool within the Digital Earth project a cross-institute Helmholtz project.
Within the Digital Earth Project we developed a web-based tool entitled 'The Digital Earth Flood Event Explorer' in which the 'Climate Change' workflow allows any user to determine precipitation changes over their region of interest from an ensemble of climate model projections associated with different Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs). This tool streamlines the standardized scientific workflow, eliminating common barriers including data volume, unfamiliar software & data formats, technical infrastructure, and technical background knowledge. This tool allows users to efficiently extract and analyze locally relevant precipitation changes from regional climate projections over their region of interest.
Christine's multi-disciplinary background culminated a Doctorate of Atmospheric Sciences at the Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology with a focus on the application of lidar and radar satellite data to improve the representation of clouds in large-scale climate models; particularly focusing on the origin of cloud radiative biases and understanding how these biases influence the evolution of clouds - a vital aspect in climate projections.
