Stefan Baltruschat started at GERICS in December 2019. He is part of the “Future-H2O” project which was founded within the framework of the Helmholtz-Institute Climate Service Science (HICSS) as a collaboration between GERICS and the department of geoscience at the University of Hamburg. Stefan will develop a global groundwater database to investigate qualitative aspects of groundwater chemistry. One of his goals is to develop applied based tools which enables identifying climate and anthropogenic drivers effecting groundwater quality.
Stefan achieved his bachelor degree in “Applied Geoscience” at the TU Darmstadt and his master degree in “Geoscience” at the Universität Hamburg. During his study he raised knowledge in geo-hydrochemistry and the carbon cycle of natural waters. For his master thesis he investigated a method to reduce actively the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere by enhancing the ocean CO2 uptake capacity.
