Shubhankar Sengupta joined GERICS as a doctoral candidate in May 2020. His work is part of the project MUCCCS (Modelling urban dynamics affected by climate change for coastal spatial planning and management), a joint project between GERICS and the University of Hamburg within the frame of the „Helmholtz-Institut Climate Service Science" (HICSS).
Shubhankar did his B.Sc. in Physical Sciences at Delhi University, followed by a Masters in Integrated Climate System Sciences from Universität Hamburg, where he worked on the effects of landcover changes in the Sahara on Holocene dust transport. During the Masters, he also worked on developing an agent-based model in Netlogo that models human mobility and networks under climate change in Sugarscape.
