Jan Wohland is a senior scientist researching the energy-climate interface. He joined the climate service center in November 2021, trying to understand the effects of climate change on wind power site assessments. In a joint project with the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Research (IWES), Jan will evaluate high resolution climate model simulations and historic information to identify vulnerabilities of future highly renewable energy systems.
Jan holds a PhD in physics from the University of Cologne and was a postdoctoral fellow researching multidecadal renewable generation variability at ETH Zurich. He is a fellow of the interdisciplinary young scientist network "das junge ZiF" at the University of Bielefeld and co-organiser of the annual Next Generation workshops in energy-climate modeling.
