Dr. Simon Muwafu is a researcher on the IDAlert project, which addresses the impacts of climate change on the emergence and spread of infectious diseases in Europe. The project develops decision-support tools and systems to help policymakers respond effectively and in a timely manner. Simon contributes to this work by applying innovative co-creation and participatory modeling approaches. He engages with stakeholders to identify needs and bridge critical knowledge gaps, translating insights into system dynamics models that support scenario-based planning and evidence-informed decision-making.

He earned his doctorate from the University of Hamburg, where his research focused on informal governance mechanisms in urban sustainability transitions in sub-Saharan Africa. His work involved institutional analysis of community-led, nature-based stormwater management solutions.

Simon has also contributed to strategic planning and capacity-building initiatives at the International Telecommunication Union, the World Meteorological Organization, and the Uganda National Meteorological Authority. As an analyst at ITACA Solutions, he evaluated financing strategies to strengthen climate resilience in agricultural value chains across the Caribbean and the Americas. He holds academic qualifications in telecommunications engineering and systems thinking, with a particular focus on the philosophy of system dynamics.
