Dr. Laurens Bouwer is a senior scientist at the Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS). He has worked on the use of risk and vulnerability models for assessing climate change impacts, water resources, and natural hazard risk. He has applied hydrological models, and flood damage models at various scales. At GERICS, he focusses on the use of climate and (extreme) weather data in impact assessments, and development of related services.
In the past, he worked in various research and consultancy projects on flood risk, effects of climate change, and risk reduction/adaptation strategies. Clients have included national and local governments, the World Bank, insurance organisations, the European Commission, and research programmes such as the EU H2020 programme.
Laurens has contributed to the reports of Working Group 2 of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), including the Third Assessment report, the Fifth Assessment report, the Special Report on Extremes (SREX), and the Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere (SROCC). He is member of the editorial board of the journal Climate Services.
